Scope of works
Working from a detailed consultant’s specification, our works package included the supply, installation, and commissioning of a complete HVAC system in accordance with healthcare requirements:
- HTM 03-01 compliant Air Handling Unit (AHU) with integrated HEPA filtration.
- Supply and extract ductwork systems.
- Thermal insulation to meet healthcare standards.
- Air distribution via grilles and diffusers.
- Heating and comfort cooling systems.
- Fire and smoke dampers (FSDs) installed throughout the system.
- Dedicated control panel for fire and smoke damper operation and integration.
- Controls integration and full system commissioning.
HTM 03-01 compliance & system performance
All installations were carried out in strict accordance with HTM 03-01, CIBSE guidance, and NHS infection control standards.
The system was installed to achieve the following critical performance criteria:
- 25 air changes per hour (ACH) within theatre environments.
- Pressure cascade control between theatre and adjacent corridor areas.
- HEPA filtration within the AHU to maintain high air quality standards.
- Temperature setpoint of 20°C, adjustable within HTM guidance.
These measures ensure a controlled environment that supports infection prevention and safe clinical operation.
Outcome
The project was delivered on time and within budget in an operational healthcare environment, and with minimal disruption to patients and staff through out of hours working and close coordination with the main contractor and associated trades.
Bespoke ductwork was designed to suit the spatial constraints of restricted ceiling voids and service routes within this challenging retrofit environment.
Following completion, the system underwent independent validation by specialist engineers, confirming full compliance with healthcare ventilation standards and operational performance requirements.
