Design, supply, and installation of a pair of packaged 40kW air handling units (AHUs) for a prominent south Manchester hospital’s critical server rooms.

Installation
This project entailed the removal of old Airwell AHU/DX systems, which were used to provide cooling into the hospital’s critical server rooms, together with the design, supply, and installation of a complete new pair of packaged 40kW air handling units (AHUs), ducting, insulation, steelwork modifications, handrail installations, temporary cooling, and electrical power supply installations.
The equipment comprised of two packaged rooftop, cooling only systems from SystemAir.

As the hospital grew, the equipment installed within the server room had increased exponentially to the point where the existing air conditioning system wasn’t able to cope with the amount of heat generated from the servers.
We carried out a full heat load calculation and selected equipment that would not only cool the existing equipment but also any additional equipment they may fit at a later date.
The installation included full backup and rotation (meaning that if one system failed the other one would automatically start to prevent any downtime). The rotation aspect involves each system cycling/auto changing every 7 days, to make sure that both systems are regularly run and tested to be working.
